House Majority Leader Eric Canter, R-Va, will address the monthly meeting of the Hanover County Republican Committee at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, at the Honey Meadows Club House at 10126 Orchard Meadow Rd. in Mechanicsille.
Cantor is the incumbent candidate for the 7th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Stosch addresses HRWC

State Senator Walter Stosch, who represents Virginia’s 12th district, was the featured speaker at the Hanover Republican Women’s Club (HRWC) general membership meeting on November 19th at the Calabash Restaurant.
Senator Stosch discussed a variety of issues including: his insight regarding the recent state-wide elections, educational programs for disadvantaged children, political activism, and his personal call to service. The following question and answer period provided members an opportunity to share their opinions with the Senator.
Following Senator Stosch’s informative address, the HRWC elected the club’s 2014 Executive Board.
The newly elected Executive Board is: President Lynn Hamilton, 1st Vice President Kristie Helmick, 2nd Vice President Liza Bradford, Recording Secretary Reeva Tilley, Treasurer Sandra Paulus, and Corresponding Secretary Jacquie Alleva.
The new board will be installed December 19 and begin their two year term January 1, 2014. Anyone interested in joining the HRWC should contact Liza Bradford at eabradford2012@gmail.com.

Republican Women celebrate 30 years
On September 17th the Hanover Republican Women’s Club held its 30th Anniversary Party and fund raising event, “Pearls and Politics,” at the Ashcreek Clubhouse in Mechanicsville.
Many of Hanover’s finest public servants attended: State Senators Ryan McDougle and Walter Stosch; Delegates Chris Peace and John Cox; Commonwealth Attorney Tripp Chalkley; Hanover County Supervisors Sean Davis (Vice Chair), Angela Kelly-Wiecek, and Wayne Hazzard. Other notables attending were: Fay Williamson, Immediate Past President of the Virginia Federation of Republican Women, Hanover County Republican Committee Vice Chair John Hardy Willson; and from the Republican State Central Committee: Dave Fuller, Marie Quinn and Jenny Mundy. Several past presidents of the HRWC: Barbara Walton, Jenny Mundy, Bea Gonzalez, and Mary Sulser were recognized for their past service to the club.
In recognition of its 30th anniversary, Delegate Chris Peace honored the club with a Commendation from the House of Delegates of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Members heard from representatives for our party candidates, Suzanne Obenshain spoke for her husband, State Senator Mark Obenshain, candidate for Attorney General; Kay James, former cabinet official for Governor George Allen and political director for President George W. Bush spoke on behalf of Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, candidate for Governor; and Daniel Bradshaw political director represented EW Jackson, candidate for Lt Governor.
The club was formed in 1983 by Myrtle Murray and Frances Walker, with the help of Delegate Frank Hargrove, to give Hanover County women the opportunity to become involved in the political process at the county, state and federal level.

Cuccinelli: gubernatorial bid focusing on jobs and economy
Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli recently addressed a packed house at the Hanover County Republican Committee. More than 85 people gathered to listen to the Republican gubernatorial candidate give remarks about his race against Terry McAuliffe. Cuccinelli began by saying that the main foucus of his campaign will be jobs and the economy — just like it was in his 2009 race for attorney general. The attorney general highlighted his accomplishment in office, including his successful suit against the Enviromental Protection Agency (EPA) which, as he noted saved Virginians $250 million.
Cuccinelli also discussed what he did before running for office. When he was a student at the University of Virginia he began a first-of-its-king program to help sexual assault victims on campus. While in lw school he worked the overnight shift at a homeless shelter in Arlington. He also did cases for the pro bono veterans consortium. He said another thing that separates him from his opponent is his grassroots focus. He said he began as a volunteer so he understands how much it means to have people advocating for him on their own time.
"Throw away the scripts!" Cuccinelli said. "I trust you to tell voters why you care, and why you ae voting the way you are." The Republican Party of Virginia will hold its convention Friday and Saturday, May 17-18, at which time the final slate will be determined.
